Our goal is to establish a sustainable algae growing facility in Iceland, while exploiting the many benefits Iceland has to offer. Among others, Iceland has geothermal energy sources and access to pure and non-polluted water. Our facility will be located in Reykjanesbær.
A High-tech Growing facility
Phase 1 of the project consists of a high-tech greenhouse for the growth of microalgae and a support building for processing and staff facilities. The greenhouse will be designed to harness both natural daylight and artificial light optimized for the purpose of growing microalgae. At night, we will deploy screens to completely block artificial light emissions to the surrounding area, while maintaining the ability to grow the algae.
The greenhouse will be equipped with photobioreactors (glass tubes) in which the microalgae will grow using salt water, light, CO2 and nutrients. Our growing system is very water efficient, which allows us to capture and reuse up to 90% of the water used to grow the microalgae.

Our project will be beneficial for the local environment, both economically and in attracting international attention. We will achieve this by creating job opportunities, attracting (international) students and companies, promoting sustainable businesses and functioning as a research centre.
In addition to our contribution to the local environment, we are committed to make a positive impact on the planet. Our growing facility, powered by Iceland’s natural and geothermal resources, will be sustainable and circular. During the algae growth process CO2 is converted into oxygen, for the production of our plant-based omega-3 oil and (protein) powder.
